Friday Night Again

Its almost 11 on friday night and here I sit deciding to blog. Yeah, I should probably go to bed, I've got somewhere to be at 9:30 tomorrow but you know, it's friday I figure I can stay up.

Tonight, I got to hang out with some friends from my sociology class which was very cool. It always uber cool to be social. Haha. Doesn't happen much anymore especially since I'm in Montana. Its harder for me to meet people here I've noticed. Not sure why but I'm attempting to be more conscious about how I come across to people and hopefully that will help!

I'm really excited for spring break (t-minus 2 weeks!) and I can't wait to spend a few days in beautiful Seattle! I'm really excited to spend a day with Dad and just chill. It's been so long since I've had a daddy-daughter day!

My friend, Nic, is on the radio tonight (HotJamz 94.5) and I've been enjoying listening via internet, a wonderful invention if I do say so myself! He was kind enough to play "Please Don't Stop the Music" for me, one of the few songs his station plays that I truly enjoy. I don't mind the rest of it, but I do love that song by Rihanna.

I haven't finished the Twilight Sage yet, but I'm getting close and I'll be sure to write an interesting to read review. I do currently recommend the series if you need a book to entertain you but don't expect to put much thought into it (which makes it perfect for me in the middle of semester when my mind is so full of academic reading!)

Classes are going well! B's on my first few exams which is good! I want A's but a B is still an excellent grade.

By the way for every one's information (and possibly to encourage it!) I really do love reading the comments left on my blog! They really do encourage me to keep writing because I know I'm not just talking to thin air! Again, thank you for the responses and comments!

On a final note I'd just like to say that over the last few weeks I suddenly feel like... well like I've grown up a little. I don't feel as silly and naive as I used to and although I may be stressed out as hell, I do feel... older and more mature. I like it. I like it a lot.

And this is where I say adieu and good night! I'll write again at the end of the weekend to give you an update on my first quilting class and my hopefully eventful (but not too eventful) weekend!

Montana... so many thoughts

Montana,
What a place...
A place where the mountains touch the sky, bison and elk run free, and people escape the everyday rush of city life.
A place where things seem to slow down.
A place where the wild still lives.

Its also a place where closed mindedness still seems to roam freely and new ideas aren't openly accepted...
I've been very sad in the last two semesters to see so many college students completely closed off to new ideas and listening to the ways and ideas of other people. I've also seen this in everyday people of Montana. It makes me extremely sad to see. People tend to be extremely nice to one another and to your face they'll seem accepting.... I'm not saying ALL Montanan's are like this, just the majority of the people I have encountered. Let me give you some examples...

More than once have I over heard students hating on our president, if it was for his politics I wouldn't care. But no, they're saying that because he's black he'll ruin our country. I'm not sure how those two equate...

In my Seminar class (class mission: to broaden your horizons and open up new doors) people were not willing to hear about other peoples religions or their lack of religion. These people were so horrible to each other and not willing to even consider other peoples ideas.

I saw this in my anthropology class too, hearing Wicca called a cult (its no more of a cult than Christianity or Islam) and that more than one god had to be wrong. Hearing that the Imbongu tribe of New Guinea were a bunch of heathens (they aren't).

I'm tired of hearing the term "fag" being thrown around and having to deal with people being complete homophobes. There's nothing wrong with gays, that's just who they are... stop being stupid.

Looking back I'm able to say this: Thank you mom and dad for raising me in western Washington and having a fairly liberal family. Thank you for showing me that everyone should be equal. Thank you for (purposefully or not) exposing me to a gay couple at a fairly young age and explaining to me that it was ok that they live that way. And thank you for not raising me christian (never saw that one coming did you?!) and allowing me to explore both the sciences and different religions respectfully.

I'm glad I've been able to experience Montana, but I'm not sure its the place for me. I've met some amazing people and some people I will model my life not to be like. But to be honest... I'm ready to be back in Washington and its "liberal" ways...

Pullman for Valentines

Made it to Pullman last night. I was very happy to make it in one attempt instead of stopping in Coeur D Alene.
I got to watch the opening ceremonies for the olympics and just watched Sweden kick Switzerland's ass in women's ice hockey (3-0). It was an excellent opening ceremony.
I'll just wanted everyone to know I made it okay!
Will write soon.

Friday night

This Friday night is chill, which is always nice.
Spent the last few weekends out so it'll be nice to stay in and relax, watch some movies, catch up on my favorite blogs, eat some horrible Kirsten cooking.
I'd say that's a good night.
This week's been really stressful because of classes and such. I took a heavy reading load this semester, but it will be okay. My anthropology and sociology classes each have enough reading a week to cover in a semester. There are moments where its painful! But that's college I suppose.
Tomorrow i get to go hang out with some girl friends and work on some of my craft projects I've got going. I'd tell you about them but there's a certain someone who reads this blog who can't know what I'm doing yet!
So, I think I'm addicted to pop... possibly caffeine. Its horrible. I have to do everything in my power not to spend my dollar to buy a can of soda. Good lord its hard! But I'm working my way through it!
Next weekend I'll be in Pullman for a Valentines day with David (YAY!) Luckily, its also a three day weekend! And I only have bowling on tuesday's SO, I'm going to drive out Friday night to either Coeur D Alene or all the way to Pullman (we'll see how I'm feeling, ((that reminds me I need to call Russ and Kim...))) Spend an awesome weekend in Pullman, than drive back on Tuesday! YAY!
Sorry there's been so much time between postings, my life is really quite boring!
