Advocacy

So I wasn't really a very um.. involved person until I got to MSU. I am now a proud member of the MSU Planned Parenthood branch, MASH (Montana Advocates for Sexual Health), and VOICE (Victims Options in the Campus Enviroment). Being involved has really helped me learn and grow as a person and as an educated young woman who can make choices and know the consequences that are always present.
This January is the 37th anniversary of the Roe vs Wade and with the Health Care Reform involving women's health I've found myself getting more politically involved.
Let me clarify my views so no one gets confused...
I am Pro-choice and I am Pro-life.
Confused?
I figured you would be.
I feel that women should have the choice of what happens to their body and not have any laws put on their body, especially by a Government that is majority men. (They'd be pissed if women put laws on what they could or could not do with their bodies, so why can they do it to us?)
I also strongly feel that abortion is purely medicinal and should NOT be used as birth control. I feel it should be regulated for the safety of the women undergoing the procedure and should not be allowed after the first trimester. Rape, incest, mothers health (both physical and psychological), ect should be the reasons behind abortion not "Omg I'm pregnant because I got really drunk and slept with every guy at the party and I have no idea who the dad is."
Okay, so now that we've got that figured out...
Honestly, the more I learn from all parties (yes, I even listen to the religious nut jobs so I can get their side of the story) the more my position on this matter solidifies. I have gone back and forth on restrictions on abortion but I have ALWAYS felt that abortion is the woman's choice (its her body for god's sake).
Feel free to comment, but lets not make any PERSONAL statements that could be hurtful. We're all adults (hopefully) and know how to have a respectful and intelligent conversation.

Quick Rant:: Doug Kaufmann

This man is what I like to call a fear-mongering f*cktard. I apologize for the language.
Mr. Kaufmann is a retired Vietnam Vet who served as a Medic before retiring. He is an author and "wave" personality who has no actual schooling in what he talks about and has decided that he will be on Day time tv to scare the crap out of people who just happen to be watching. He has a show called "Know the Cause" where he will tell you what the REAL problem is, not what your doctor (who does know what the hell they're talking about) has diagnosed you with.
Apparently, anti-biotics are bad, vaccines are the bane of human existence, and mold will kill us all.
Yes, there are dangers in everything we do, well duh.
I don't know if I've ever heard him go a show without using the term MICOTOXIN. He's obsessed...
BTW I don't watch this by choice, it comes on and I change the channel.
Thank you for letting me rant. I just find this guy irratating and had to say it. Thanks!

Where am I going?

Where am I going?
What the hell am I doing with my life?
What do I plan on doing with my life for the next 60 years?

I thought I wanted to be a nurse and honestly its the only thing I still seeing myself doing...
I thought about social work and got shot down because "Its the first thing to get cut when budgets come out"
I thought about forensics but mom and dad wouldn't approve.
I debated criminal justice but again I don't think mom and dad would approve.
So I'm sticking to nursing, but its on hold until I can get my gpa up again (stupid stats)

What the hell am I doing with my life?

2009 Retrospect- 2010 Goals

2009 is such a blur to be honest. This is a mesh of things that happened in almost the right order.
  • Turned 19 and made the resolution I'd be more than 50% independent by the end of the year (TOTAL CATASTROPHIC FAILURE)
  • Got through spring classes without any issues
  • Lived on my own for a summer with the full support of my parents (yes, I'm a complete loser).
  • Been through 3 jobs and struggling to find another.
  • Failed my stats class in fall semester.
  • Had a phone last almost a year, stopped chewing my finger nails
  • Lost weight and gained it back.
  • Made some great friends, lost contact with some old friends.
  • David asked Dad for permission to marry me, and got told to wait, but that yes he could eventually marry me.

In 2010 I have some goals too-

  • Loose the weight and keep it off
  • Sock away lots and lots of money during the summer
  • Get at least B's in spring semester nothing lower
  • Have a roommate for Fall Semester
  • Become more financially independent
